This thread is about issue that I faced with Synology RS815+ used as Xdrive Storage.
Several days ago I got a complain that X drive is not accessible. So I started checking the network availability and found that it is not pingable, so I did a restart and it was available about 20–30 min then again lost the ping. I did several reboots and understand that it was some failures with the hardware. I also tried to plug lan cable to another port, than it was available around 3 hours and again lost the ping.
There was an idea to upgrade DSM, but the loading takes some time and I was sure that Synology will lost ping so I decided not to do it as it may cause OS corrupt.
The interesting thing is that all indicators on the device are green, meaning that system is not detecting any issue.
After some search in the web I found that our Synology had an issue with the onboard chips. The problem is that CPU intel fails after some period of time.
Solution: Adding one 100 Ohm resistor to the board. On the left picture you could see up right corner before the maintenance and 2nd picture shows the result of the maintenance.
So I did this maintenance, and our device is up and running, I am continuing the monitoring of it.
Will see how it will help, but I have following question, so if you have something to reply please do not hesitate to let me know.
- I am wondering if the amount of 40 000 hours = 4.5 years of non-stop work is a reason to replace HDD?
